This piece was inspired by a road I drive up and down, Peculiar Drive. It has somewhat of an undulating road. I took liberty with it and pronounced more undulation and with a much greater distance and recession. I loved the clouds of cast and sun falling upon the road. I strived to create a juxtaposition of cool against warm, lighted foreground against a shadowy background under the umbrella of cloud cover. I thought about employing an architectural component but decided it would have undermined the clean pure open expanse of the thing of adventure through corn fields.

We have a general close complementary palette of gray blues and yellow ochres. Burnt Sienna's, quiet oranges, greens and violets help neutralize the whole.

The bottom third is where my focal area of interest lives. Notice the directional cloud light (upper right to bottom left) casting inside the pocket at the intersection of the two foreground roads. Notice the brighter hues in this area and how the right side of the composition plays a subordinate part in the picture plane.
